Jentri Reamy of Owasso took a slightly different path into the Owasso High School FFA chapter. Many of her peers joined in middle school, but Reamy was playing softball and did not join until her sophomore year.
“I thought this would be a disadvantage because I didn’t know anyone and didn’t have much connection to anyone in our chapter, but it never felt that way once I got involved. My dad has worked for Owasso Public Schools for almost 40 years and knew Mr. Nemecek so he told me to just try it and see if I liked it. To say I liked it was an understatement,” said Reamy.
Building relationships and getting to know other students is one aspect of FFA Reamy has thoroughly enjoyed.
“I know it may sound cliché, but it really is the best part because I have met many students, livestock producers and amazing agriculturalists from all over the state just by being in this organization. One example of that is being a part of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Youth Council. This council is put on by Secretary Blayne Arthur and her staff to facilitate 20 high school seniors from all over the state for them to meet industry leaders and producers from the Oklahoma agriculture industry. I made some of my best friends through that council and now have connections with many people that I didn’t think were possible,” said Reamy.
Reamy has very active in the chapter. From participating in leadership and showing animals, Reamy has enjoyed the opportunities FFA has provided her.
“During my first year of ag, I got really involved with the leadership side of the organization. I participated in the Agriscience Fair where I carried out and presented an agriculturally related science project of my choosing to judges. I ended up placing 2nd in my division at the State Contest in Stillwater. I also competed in the Agricultural Communications Career Development Event and public speaking. I have exhibited cattle the last two years on the local, state and national level. This has become one of my favorite parts of my experience and where I have found a passion past my high school career,” said Reamy. “I have exhibited show heifers for the past two years and have shown on the local, state and national level. During my time some of my achievements have been, Class Winner and Reserve Division at the 2021 Oklahoma Youth Expo, Reserve Breed at OSU AGR Winter Bonanza as well as Supreme Female, Grand Champion Senior Showman at local invitationals. I have also shown at the 2021 Cattlemen’s Congress, The American Royal and Junior Nationals. Through showing I have gotten the opportunity fit cattle and work with some of the bigger show cattle breeders in the state.”
Reamy plans to attend Oklahoma State University in the fall and major in Agricultural Education and Animal Science.
