Q&A with Owasso Cross Country’s Brantley Turman – Presented by Steve Doss Farmers Insurance Agency

VYPE: What are your sports goals for the year and how is the season going?

Brantley: My season goal is to break 18 minutes in the 5k, I think that will set me up well for the next season. The season started off slow, the first race didn’t go too well, but kept on training, ran a lot better at the second meet, then finished 3rd for Owasso in the JV race at Forest Park in St. Louis.

VYPE: What are you looking forward to the most this sports season?

Brantley: The thing I’m looking forward to the most this cross country season is our home meet, the Owasso Invitational, at Mohawk park. That’s kind of our home field and there’s always a chance that you run your fastest season time there.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Brantley: My favorite teacher is probably Mrs. Vogt. I’m not really sure why because she was my kindergarten teacher so I don’t remember much.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Brantley: My favorite athletic memory is probably hitting a game winning shot in basketball when I was in elementary school. It’s not related to the sport I’m in now, but it’s my favorite sports memory.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Brantley: The one teammate that made the biggest impact on me is probably Ian Conder. He took me under his wing when I was a freshman and really just guided me through my freshman and sophomore seasons. He was a very successful runner in our program and him guiding me helped a lot.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being part of a team?

Brantley: My favorite part about being part of this team is the atmosphere. We have a super fun group of guys, we take our workouts and races seriously, but when we’re not training or racing you can find us playing golf, football, or whiffle ball.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Brantley: If I could go anywhere for the summer I’d go to Colorado and I’d take my teammates. We’ve been wanting to take a trip there for altitude training.

VYPE: If we have you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

Brantley: If I was given $500 I would definitely spend it on shoes, whether it’s running shoes, spikes, or just casual shoes.

VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.

Brantley: I would like to say thank you to my parents and Coach Collins.
